🚗 CarShare App – Help & Getting Started

📱 Installing the App ▶
  • Open the CarShare app link in your mobile browser.
  • If prompted by your browser, tap Install App to add it to your home screen.
  • Alternatively, use the Install App button on the home screen of the app at any time to add it manually.
  • On Android: You can also open the browser menu (three dots) and select "Add to Home screen" if the prompt doesn’t appear.
  • On iOS (iPhone/iPad): Tap the Share button in Safari, then select "Add to Home Screen" to create a shortcut.
  • Adding the app to your home screen improves performance, enables offline access, and allows quick one-tap opening like a native app.
📝 Creating an Account ▶
  • Click Sign Up on the home page.
  • Enter your details: Name, Email, Password, and Home Address. (Home Address is auto-filled using Google’s address suggestions.)
  • Submit the form to create your account.
  • After registering, you will receive an OTP code in your email to verify your account.
  • Please check your spam folder If you cannot find it in your inbox.
🔑 Logging In ▶
  • Open the app and click Login.
  • Enter your email and password.
  • The app takes you to the correct dashboard.
🚦 Understanding Roles ▶
  • Every user can be a Driver or a Non-Driver / Passenger at any time.
  • Non-Drivers / Passengers: You can walk, cycle, take the bus, or join rides shared by drivers. Simply use the đź§Ť icon in the sidebar to switch to passenger mode.
  • Drivers: To offer rides, you must first complete your car details in the app. You must then set your availability to share you car to commute to work.
  • Drivers can charge a fare to cover the trip costs, but the app is not for profit-making. To enable payments, drivers must go to Payment Settings in the sidebar and onboard to accept payments.
  • Use the đź§Ť/đźš— toggle in the sidebar to switch between driver and passenger mode instantly.
đźš— Sharing a Car (Driver) â–¶
  • Switch to your Driver Profile using the đź§Ť/đźš— toggle in the sidebar.
  • Before you can share your car, you must complete your Car Details:
    • Click the top-left menu while in Driver Profile.
    • Select Car Details.
    • Enter all required information: Car Registration, Make, Model, and how many seats you plan to share.
  • On the same page, set the Arrival Time at Work.
    • This is not your shift start time.
    • It’s how long before your shift you need to arrive — allowing time for parking, walking, and finalising the car share.
  • Once these details are complete, you’ll be able to set your availability to start offering rides to passengers and join the car share system.
đź“… Set Availability(Driver) â–¶
  • Go to the Availability tab from the footer navigation tabs.
  • You’ll see a calendar view.
  • To set your availability:
    • Click on the date(s) you wish to share your car.
    • Tick the Availability checkbox to confirm you’re available on that date.
    • Set your Shift Start Time (this must be the actual shift start time).
  • The shift start time is important because it ensures you are matched only with colleagues starting their shift at the same time.
  • Once your availability is set, your colleagues looking for a ride share will be able to find you and send a request to join your car.
🛣️ Request a Ride Share (Passenger) ▶
  • First, ensure you are in your Rider Profile (use the đź§Ť/đźš— toggle in the sidebar if needed).
  • Go to the Search tab from the footer navigation tabs.
  • Enter your Shift Start Time and the desired radius (in miles) to search for available drivers.
  • Click Search to find drivers within that radius.
  • Alternatively, if you already know a driver’s car registration:
    • Enter their Car Reg along with the shift start time.
    • Click Search to find that exact driver.
  • Once search results appear, you can:
    • Browse the Driver List, or
    • Click View on Map to see drivers displayed geographically.
  • When you select a driver (from the list or the map), you’ll be able to view their availability.
  • Check the date you require the ride share, then send a Ride Share Request to that driver.
âś… Accepting Requests (Drivers) â–¶
  • Make sure you are in your Driver Profile.
  • Open the Requests tab from the footer navigation tabs.
  • If you have new ride share requests, you may also see a notification on your dashboard.
  • In the Requests page, you’ll see a list of ride share requests from colleagues.
  • Click on a request to view details:
    • See the Rider’s name who sent the request.
    • View a Route Plan to your workplace, showing:
      • The distance and route from your home to the rider.
      • The combined route from your home âžť rider âžť workplace.
      • The time you need to leave home to arrive at work by your set arrival time.
  • If you already have confirmed riders for that date and shift, the route plan will automatically include:
    • All existing riders you’ve accepted.
    • The adjusted pickup sequence and departure time from home.
  • Analyse the plan to decide if the journey is feasible for you.
  • Click the Respond button and choose whether to Accept or Decline the request.
đź“… Viewing Confirmed Journeys â–¶
  • Once a booking is confirmed, both the Driver and the Rider can view the journey details.
  • Open the Journeys tab from the footer navigation to see all your Booked / Scheduled Journeys.
  • Your next upcoming journey will also be highlighted at the top of your Dashboard for quick access.
  • Click on the journey to open the Route Plan, which includes:
    • The full journey path from driver’s home to workplace.
    • The pickup sequence of each passenger along the way.
    • The estimated times the driver will arrive at each passenger’s location.
  • This helps both drivers and riders stay organised and be ready on time for the shared journey.
🚦 Starting the Journey (Drivers) ▶
  • When it’s time for your scheduled journey, click the Start the Journey button in your driver dashboard.
  • Clicking Start the Journey officially begins the journey, and all riders in that journey will receive a notification.
  • On your dashboard, open the Active / In-Progress Journey dropdown to view the ongoing journey.
  • A QR code will be displayed for this journey. You must show this QR code to riders when they join.
  • Tap on the QR code to enlarge it to full screen for easier scanning by riders.
  • This ensures a smooth boarding process and verifies the rider for this shared journey.
đź§Ť Joining the Journey (Passengers) â–¶
  • When you are about to get into the car, open your app and scan the QR code shown on the driver’s phone screen.
  • Scanning the QR code marks you as joined for this journey.
  • After scanning, you will be shown your share of the journey cost as set by the driver.
  • Confirm and complete the payment to secure your ride for this journey.
đź’ł Driver Payment Onboarding â–¶
  • To accept payments from riders, you must first switch to your Driver profile.
  • Go to Payment Settings from the sidebar menu.
  • Click on Complete Stripe Onboarding to set up your account for secure payments.
  • All payment processing is done through Stripe, which is fully compliant with industry security standards. The app never stores your payment details.

đź’ł Completing Payment (Passengers) â–¶
  • Drivers are not meant to make a profit from the car share; the payment only covers a share of the journey costs.
  • The share of the cost depends on the distance you are getting a lift for.
  • Your share is always visible in the journey plan on your dashboard and is also displayed once you scan the QR code after joining the journey.
  • Confirm and complete the payment to finalize your ride for the journey.
đź’ł Payment Processing â–¶
  • All payments are processed securely through Stripe, a global leader in online payment processing.
  • The app does not store any card or payment details. All sensitive data is handled directly by Stripe’s secure servers.
  • Stripe is fully PCI DSS compliant, ensuring that all transactions meet the highest standards of security.
  • A small transaction fee is applied by Stripe for each payment processed. This fee is standard and goes directly to Stripe, not the app or drivers.

  • All payments are authorized and processed in real-time, providing both drivers and passengers with instant confirmation of the transaction.
âś… Driver Share Verification â–¶
  • When the journey at its end, the driver can mark the journey as completed and use the same QR code to verify the car sharing trip.
  • This ensures that all riders who joined the journey are properly accounted for and the journey is confirmed.
  • Riders do not need to scan again unless there is an issue with the initial check-in.
  • The QR verification also confirms the total riders in the car, making sure the journey record is accurate for both driver and passengers.
  • Once verified, which finalizes the ride details.
đź”” Notifications & Messages â–¶
  • The bell shows new notifications (ride requests, confirmations).
  • The envelope shows messages from drivers or riders.
  • Keep the app open for real-time updates.
🛠️ Troubleshooting ▶
  • If the app is not loading,try options like close the app and open again, Restart the phone and open the app gain, or open the app from the initial link and install again.
  • Forgot your password? Reset it on the login page.
  • Role not updating? Use the sidebar toggle.
  • Missing journey info? Ensure your postcode and bookings are complete.
